Hammond was on a first date and went to buy a small amount of marijuana in the parking lot of the local Hardee's. The seller was an undercover cop. The deal went bad and the officer shot Hammond dead--as Hammond drove away in the general direction of the officer--on the grounds that he was threatening the officer with his car, claims that were contradicted by autopsy results. Police alleged vehicular assault.
