Kuik was identified as the suspect of an armed robbery and officers spotted his car and pulled him over in the parking lot of a hotel. Kuik got out of the driver's seat with a gun and refused to listen to officers' commands. He started entering the hotel, and gunfire was exchanged between him and officers.
