Deadly force

Police said they had been in contact with Smith, a marine veteran, for a couple of hours over the phone in an attempt to bring him out of his home. Neighbors were evacuated from their homes on Citation Dr. and SWAT was called in. Investigators say Smith came out of his home and pointed a gun at a SWAT officer, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, at which point he was shot and killed.
