Officers responded to a home "regarding a male adult suffering from a mental illness who was refusing to go to a mental hospital," police said. The man had run away from the home by the time police arrived. A family member followed the man about a mile to the 7900 block of Ocean View Avenue. As officers approached, the man tried to jump over a fence leading to a water reservoir. Officers used control holds to restrain and handcuff the man, killing him.
