Douglas Daniels, 39, was found dead from blunt force trauma to the head on the west bank of the Guyandotte River around 8:30 p.m. Police said they then saw Joey Vernetter leaving the scene and followed him to the 3rd Avenue bridge where he jumped in the river. Police reportedly confronted Vernetter, and he swam back toward the middle of the river, then went under. Vernetter's body was found May 21 in the Ohio River near South Point.
