At approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a suspicious person in the area, police said. Officers saw Howard Hughes was armed, and as police interacted with him, he allegedly pointed his gun toward them, and they fired at him. The coroner later ruled that Hughes died from a self-inflicted injury.
