Two Erie police officers on patrol spotted a stolen minivan parked along East Third Street and were approaching it when the van accelerated in the general direction of officers, police said. The van came "very close" to the officers when they fired at it with their guns, killing Charles Wallace, 46, who was driving it, he said. Police alleged vehicular assault.
