Paul Williams, 50, a Stoughton police sergeant, told police he was choking on a lemon seed from his iced tea in the moments before when he left the roadway, struck a tree and eventually struck and killed Ralph Hawkins, who was standing in a neighbor's driveway, dragging him about 40 feet before coming to rest in front of another home. Williams was charged with motor other homicide by negligent operation, negligent operation of a motor other and a marked lanes violation.
