Gardena officers responded to a shots-fired call and found Ross running south on Van Ness Avenue, police said. Witnesses told police that the man they saw running was involved in the shooting. Officers chased Ross and shot and killed him. A firearm allegedly was found at the scene, but police were unsure if the suspect discharged his firearm at the officers. The family settled a federal lawsuit with the city of Gardena for $1.3 million in November 2021.
