Driver Marcellus Edward-James Epps and passenger Levi Cortez Weems were in a Dodge Durango that the Barrow County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop for reported erratic driving. Epps fled at high speed, and a state trooper took over the chase. The trooper caught up with the other and knocked it off the road with a PIT maneuver. Weems was thrown from the other and killed. Epps fled on foot and evaded capture for a year and a -half. He was charged with felony homicide by other in first degree, felony homicide by other leaving the scene, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer for a felony and reckless driving and obstruction of police.
