At 7:38 a.m., police and EMS were called on a report of a disturbance and a man "in distress." Police encountered Albert Guerra and found that he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Officers told Guerra that he would be placed under arrest. There was a fight in the house that spilled into the front yard. Officers shocked Guerra multiple times with a stun gun, killing him.
