Police responding to a report of a man waving a gun around encountered Jethro Benjamin brandishing a handgun. An officer ordered Benjamin to disarm and lay down on the ground. Instead Benjamin took cover behind a car and shot at the officer. The officer returned fire and wounded Benjamin, who died later in the hospital.
