At Rest

Deadly force
Deputies attempted to pull Carmelo Pizarro over as a suspected DUI. After a brief pursuit, he crashed near his home and fled on foot toward his family's house, allegedly brandishing a handgun. Deputies fired at Pizarro; it was not reported if he was hit. Deputies pursued Pizarro, who allegedly ditched the handgun as he was running. Deputies caught up to the unarmed Pizarro just as he arrived at his family's house. The deputies shot and killed him in front of his mother, who said her son was unarmed and trying to surrender. The family has filed a wrongful death suit in the case.
