About 8 p.m., officers were at the America's Best Value Inn to serve Jose Luis Rodriguez with a felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officers saw Rodriguez leave a room with a handgun in his hand. Rodriguez allegedly attempted to hide behind his girlfriend and their baby as he exited. He refused to drop the gun, and an officer shot and killed him. A grand jury cleared the officer of criminal wrongdoing.
