California Highway Patrol Officer Todd Barrett and Ventura County Sheriff's Deputy Ron Helus encountered mass shooter Ian David Long after he'd shot and killed 11 people at the Borderline Bar & Grill. Long began firing at the officers a minute after they'd entered the bar. Helus was killed by Barrett in a case of friendly crossfire. Long shot and killed himself.
