Around 7:50 a.m. Butts County deputies attempted to pull over a black BMW SUV along I-75 for a tag violation, police said. As soon as the deputy turned his lights on, driver Major Reilford fled. They continued north on 75 at speeds in excess of 100 mph. Police chased Reilford through Butts and Spalding counties and into Henry County, where he fatally crashed less than 10 minutes after the chase began.
