The Syracuse Fire Department responded to a home around 10 a.m. for a medical call involving a 74-year-old man, police said. Firefighters then asked the police department to respond for backup. When the man reportedly pointed a starter pistol (which looks like a handgun) at police, an officer shot and killed him.
