A patrol officer tried to pull over a Mercedes SUV for a traffic violation. Police said the driver sped off, ran a red light and rear-ended a parked car. Officers said they didn't chase the Mercedes but broadcast a description of the fleeing SUV to other officers. A few minutes later, the speeding Mercedes crashed head-on with a semi-truck. One of the two people in the SUV was killed. A second person in the SUV was seriously injured.
