Police reportedly attempted to stop Douglas Cody Gass for driving recklessly. He fled, police pursued, and eventually Gass crashed the car into a power pole in Chattanooga. Police said Gass got out of the car and ran, leaving behind Kobe and the other passenger. The other passenger tried to get Kobe Burchfield out of the car, but his seat belt held him back and the flames took over, killing him. Police eventually caught up with Gass.
