Luis Cardona kidnapped his wife, Babette Caraballo, from outside her workplace. As police closed in on the SUV, Cardona shot Caraballo with his pistol, and Deputy Aaron Schley at Cardona. Cardona also shot himself. It was reportedly determined that the deputy's gunshots did not hit or kill Cardona and that Cardona died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
