Zayne Clayton Carrillo was armed with a gun and got in a dispute with a friend who worked at the mall. The store called the police, who encountered Carrillo outside the mall. He fired several shots at them and fled to the backyard of his family's residence, where he turned the gun on himself about 10 p.m. as police closed in.
