Deputies were reportedly searching for Joshua Gay after his girlfriend called 911 asking for help. Dispatchers later received reports of shots fired, and deputies found the domestic violence suspect. Police alleged he refused to put down his gun and a box cutter he was holding and deputies shot and killed Joshua Gay.
