Jeffrey Wratten was the subject of a "be on the lookout" for police after a family member said they were concerned about his well being. Around 12:38 p.m., a Cabot police officer initiated a traffic stop. Wratten was the driver of the other stopped by the officer and got out holding a shotgun. Officer Sylvester Starks ordered Wratten to drop the gun, and then shot and killed him.
