Deadly force

Around 10 p.m., officers were called to the neighborhood after multiple calls about a fight at the home. Callers told police that a man was asking them for a gun so he could kill himself. Paul Sarver also called police himself and told them he had a gun. When officers arrived, they found Sarver outside of the house where he told officers he had a gun and pointed what appeared to be a gun at them. Both officers shot and killed him. A black hard-shell eyeglasses case was used as a simulated weapon and was found next to him. Officers then went inside the house and found a 46-year-old woman, Shannon Hursh, and the couple's 13-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries. Both died from being beaten with a baseball bat.
