Bern Township officers on patrol turned around to get behind a car for unspecified reasons. The driver of the other fled. Officers tried to catch up to the car, but the brief getaway attempt ended when the car had slammed into a tree. Michael Brooks Jr., 20, and a 15-year-old girl from Lebanon were pronounced dead around 3:30 a.m. The coroner did not release the girl's name because of her age, and provided no legal justification for the withholding of the name.
