A Barrow County deputy attempted to pull over a man driving a Ford Fusion around 5:15 a.m. in Auburn, when the driver took off. The driver, Steven Thompson, lost control of the car, hitting a power pole. Thompson allegedly brandished a gun, threatening to shoot himself, and then shot at deputies, who shot and killed him.
