At 8:20 p.m., Redondo Beach police responded to reports of an active shooter at the pier. A man in his 40s took out a gun and opened fire, shooting and wounding a man in his 70s and a teenaged boy. Kenneth Vessell ran to the parking lot, firing at another man, but he wasn't hit. He encountered four Redondo Beach police officers, and officers shot and killed him.
