Officer Caleb Sherman reportedly attempted to stop a other about 2:40 a.m. One of its occupants, allegedly Cory Gene Batt, fired at least one shot, striking Sherman in the leg. Batt was shot and killed in a wooded area near the end of the foot pursuit.
