Na’im Jamal Zubeidi

Na'im Jamal Zubeidi was born in 1997 in Jenin Refugee Camp, a densely populated and frequently raided community in the northern occupied West Bank. Growing up under Israeli military occupation, Na'im experienced the daily realities of checkpoints, night raids, and economic hardship that characterize life for most Palestinian refugees. Like many young men from Jenin - a city renowned for its resistance to occupation - Na'im was detained by Israeli forces at one point, spending time as a political prisoner before being released just months before his death. Despite these challenges, the 27-year-old worked tirelessly at the Jenin Industrial Zone to support his young family, including his wife, their toddler Elia, and their unborn second child. His father Jamal described him as a hardworking man who would return exhausted from long shifts, only to face the constant threat of Israeli violence that loomed over the camp.

Na'im's life was brutally cut short in the early hours of June 10, 2024, when Israeli undercover forces stormed Jenin Refugee Camp. Witnesses reported that when soldiers opened fire and wounded 26-year-old Mohammad Sa'adi, Na'im rushed to help move him to safety - a courageous act of solidarity that would cost him his life. Israeli soldiers responded by pumping seven bullets into his body at close range, striking him in the head, chest and limbs in what his family and human rights organizations characterize as an extrajudicial execution. The killing occurred during a particularly bloody wave of Israeli raids across the West Bank that claimed six Palestinian lives in just 48 hours, part of a dramatic escalation since October 2023 that has seen over 570 Palestinians killed in the occupied territory. Na'im's funeral drew thousands of mourners who carried his body through Jenin's streets, their chants for justice and liberation echoing through the same alleyways where he played as a child and where he ultimately sacrificed his life trying to save another.
