Their life

Full Name: Dana Riad Hasan Ishkantna
Age: 9 years old
Sex: Female
Date of Death: May 16, 2021
Place of Death: Al-Wahda Street, Gaza City, Palestine
Cause of Death: Killed in an Israeli airstrike that struck her home, killing her mother and siblings.

Dana Riad Hasan Ishkantna was a 9-year-old Palestinian girl living with her family on Al-Wahda Street in Gaza City. Like many children in the besieged enclave, Dana grew up under the constant threat of war, experiencing the sounds of drones, the fear of airstrikes, and the trauma of displacement. In an effort to support her mental health, Dana had been receiving trauma counselling from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), which works with children affected by conflict.

On the night of May 16, 2021, Dana’s home was hit by a powerful Israeli airstrike as part of a broader military campaign in Gaza. The bombing targeted densely populated residential buildings along Al-Wahda Street, a central area in the city. The strike caused catastrophic destruction, burying families beneath the rubble.

Dana was killed in the attack alongside her mother and siblings. Only her father, Riad Hasan Ishkantna, survived, reportedly rescued from under the rubble. He later described the horror of losing his entire family in a matter
