Dima Rami al-Ifranji was a 15-year-old Palestinian girl living with her family on Al-Wahda Street, a central neighborhood in Gaza City. She was described as a thoughtful and bright student, and like many children in Gaza, she had been receiving trauma counseling from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) to cope with the psychological impact of growing up under blockade and recurrent bombardment.
On May 16, 2021, during a night of intense Israeli airstrikes, Dima’s home was struck and collapsed. She died alongside her younger sister Mira and other relatives. Dima’s death came despite being in what should have been a place of refuge—her own home. Her loss represents the tragic cost of war on young lives full of potential and resilience.
