Their life

Name: Hussein al-Titi

Age: 28

Gender: Male

From: Al-Fawwar refugee camp, Hebron area

Marital Status: Unknown

Killed: 12 May 2021, shot on the roof of his home during a pre-dawn raid

Notable: Shot with “dum dum” bullets; denied Israeli army’s claims of aggression

Hussein al-Titi, 28, was a resident of the al-Fawwar refugee camp near Hebron in the occupied West Bank. He was killed during a large-scale pre-dawn Israeli raid on the camp on 12 May 2021. According to his brother, hundreds of soldiers raided the camp, using live fire and tear gas immediately. Hussein was asleep when the raid began and went to the roof to see what was happening. He was shot twice in the chest by a sniper, reportedly using "dum dum" bullets designed to expand on impact. Israeli forces prevented his family and ambulance crews from evacuating him promptly, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at a health center. His family denied Israeli claims that he was attempting to attack soldiers. Hussein’s death highlighted the use of lethal force by Israeli forces during West Bank raids.

A plea from the family

Relative: Ahmed al-Titi (older brother) "They came in guns blazing. Hundreds of soldiers raided the camp, completely closing off all the entrances and exits." "Hussein was sleeping and suddenly we heard shooting like crazy, so he got up and went to the roof to see what was going on." "He was barely up there for a few minutes when he was shot by a sniper." "They killed him in cold blood." "We had to drive around and meet the ambulance on the outskirts of the camp... but by the time they reached the health center in Dura, it was too late." "Israelis are on edge because they have lost control… and our young people are paying the price." "The world needs to stop being silent while they watch what Israel is doing to us." "They are committing crimes on a daily basis and violating international law. Israel needs to be held accountable for its crimes on the Palestinian people."
