Following the incident, Israeli forces closed the area and reportedly assaulted Palestinian journalists attempting to cover the event. The Israeli army suggested the shooting might signal a broader escalation in the West Bank amid rising tensions in Jerusalem.
Information about Abdullah's personal life, including his occupation or educational background, is scarce. However, a report from the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights indicates that his parents, Khaled Mohammed Da’bas (56) and Qadar Atiya Da’bas (51), were arrested by Israeli forces on June 21, 2021, during a raid in Tulkarem. They were later released.
Abdullah’s death occurred during a period of heightened Israeli-Palestinian tensions, particularly in Jerusalem and the West Bank, contributing to the broader unrest that escalated into the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis.
