Their life

Mohammad Fawaz Al-Wahidi, commonly known as "Abu Sahib," was a Palestinian community figure and relief official associated with the Gaza operations of the Egyptian Relief Committee. He served as director of the office responsible for relations with local elders, tribal representatives, and community leaders at the committee's headquarters in Gaza City. He was known for his involvement in community outreach, social reconciliation initiatives, and support for humanitarian activities aimed at assisting residents affected by the war in Gaza.

Throughout his work with the Egyptian Relief Committee, Mohammad Fawaz Al-Wahidi played an important liaison role between the relief organization and local communities. Various reports described him as being involved in public relations, media coordination, and communication with tribal elders and community representatives. His work supported humanitarian assistance programs, reconstruction efforts, housing projects, and essential service initiatives implemented under Egypt's support program for Gaza. The committee's official statement following his death highlighted his efforts in social reform, neighborhood reconciliation, and strengthening values of tolerance, solidarity, and unity among Palestinians. He was regarded locally as a respected community figure who worked to resolve disputes and encourage cooperation among residents during a period of severe humanitarian hardship.

How they died

Mohammad Fawaz Al-Wahidi died from injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a civilian vehicle near the governorate building in Gaza City's Sabra neighborhood. The strike killed him instantly or caused fatal injuries from the explosion and blast impact. Two other Palestinians, including a child, were also reported killed in the same attack.

The death of Mohammad Fawaz Al-Wahidi occurred amid ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza despite a fragile ceasefire arrangement. On the evening of 7 July 2026, a missile struck a civilian vehicle near the governorate building in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City. The attack killed Al-Wahidi along with two other individuals, one of whom was a child, and injured several others. According to the spokesperson for the Egyptian Relief Committee in Gaza, Al-Wahidi had been attending or participating in a neighborhood reconciliation session at the time of the strike and was not specifically targeted because of his position. The incident drew attention because it occurred shortly before Egypt's World Cup match against Argentina and because Al-Wahidi was associated with Egypt's humanitarian and reconstruction activities in Gaza.
