Muhammad Mahmoud Abu Sharia was a Palestinian journalist and editor-in-chief of Shams News Agency, known for his courage and commitment to reporting under fire in Gaza. On June 29, 2024, while preparing to leave his home in the Sabra district of western Gaza City for a reporting mission, he was struck by an Israeli airstrike. Despite wearing a press vest and helmet, he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the nearest hospital. After two days of critical care, he succumbed to his wounds on July 1, 2024. His death was condemned by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, who renewed calls for the protection of journalists and a transparent investigation into his killing.

Muhammad Mahmoud Abu Sharia was a respected Palestinian journalist and the editor-in-chief of the local Shams News Agency in Gaza. Dedicated to documenting the suffering and resilience of his people, he worked tirelessly amid the dangers of the ongoing conflict to deliver accurate and timely news. On June 29, 2024, Abu Sharia was standing in front of his home in the Sabra neighborhood of western Gaza City, dressed in his press vest and helmet, ready to leave for a new assignment.
