Asem Al-Barsh, 34, was a dedicated Palestinian radio journalist with Radio Al-Najah, known for his commitment to community storytelling and media education. He worked with various local radio stations and played a key role in developing the “Hawiya Podcast,” a platform promoting dialogue and diverse perspectives. In addition to his professional work, Asem volunteered to teach radio journalism and podcast production to young students, mentoring the next generation of journalists in Gaza.

Asem Al-Barsh was a passionate media professional whose work combined journalism, mentorship, and a commitment to fostering dialogue in Palestinian society. Throughout his career, he contributed to multiple local radio stations and helped create the “Hawiya Podcast,” a program that encouraged discussion and reflection on identity, culture, and community issues. Beyond reporting, Asem voluntarily taught radio journalism and podcasting to young students, sharing his skills and experiences to inspire future media professionals. Despite personal losses, including the destruction of his home studio in an Israeli bombardment shortly after 7 October, Asem continued his work with resilience and dedication. Tragically, on 21 November 2023, he was shot and killed by an Israeli army sniper in the Al-Saftawi area of northern Gaza while returning home from his job, leaving a legacy of courage, mentorship, and devotion to truth.
