Biography

Moamen Aliwa, 23, was a young and passionate Palestinian assistant cameraman working for Al Jazeera. Originally trained in computer engineering, he was skilled in programming and computer maintenance and also had a deep love for soccer. He played for the Gaza Sports Club and the local “Shujaiya Services” team. His close friendship with journalist Mohammad Qraiqea encouraged him to join Al Jazeera in April 2025, where he quickly became known for his dedication and teamwork. Tragically, his promising career and life were cut short on 10 August 2025 when an Israeli drone strike hit the media tent near Shifa Hospital in Gaza, killing him while he was working alongside colleagues.

Born and raised in Gaza, Moamen Aliwa was known among his peers as a bright and hardworking individual with both technical and creative talents. Before entering journalism, he pursued a degree in computer engineering, excelling in areas such as programming and system maintenance. However, his friendship with Al Jazeera journalist Mohammad Qraiqea inspired him to shift paths toward media, combining his technical skills with a passion for storytelling and truth. He joined Al Jazeera in April 2025 as an assistant cameraman, where his enthusiasm, politeness, and helpful nature quickly earned the respect of his colleagues. Outside of work, Moamen was also a gifted athlete who played soccer for Gaza Sports Club and Shujaiya Services, representing his local community with pride. On 10 August 2025, while working inside a media tent near Shifa Hospital with fellow journalists, he was killed in an Israeli drone strike that targeted Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif.
