Adham Ra’fat at-Tanani was a 4-year-old boy from Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip. He lived with his parents, Ra’fat and Rawiyia, and his three siblings, Ismail, Ameer, and Mohammad. Adham’s short life was filled with the innocence and joy of early childhood, surrounded by his siblings in their family home.

Adham Ra’fat at-Tanani was born in Beit Hanoun, a small but densely populated town in the northern Gaza Strip. He was the third of four children in his family and was known for his playful spirit and closeness to his brothers. Like many children in Gaza, Adham grew up in a difficult environment shaped by constant threats of conflict, yet his days were filled with the warmth of his parents and siblings. On May 13, 2021, Adham’s life was tragically cut short when an Israeli airstrike struck his home, killing him, his parents, and his siblings. His story became one of many examples of the devastating toll that war takes on innocent civilians, especially children.

How they died

Adham was killed in an Israeli airstrike that destroyed his family’s home.

In the early hours of May 13, 2021, Israeli warplanes launched heavy missile strikes on Beit Hanoun, targeting residential areas without warning. At least 20 missiles hit the neighborhood, one of which destroyed the Tanani family’s home, killing Adham, his parents, and his three siblings instantly. Search and rescue teams later recovered their bodies from beneath the rubble. The airstrike was part of a wider bombardment across Gaza that killed 36 Palestinians that night, including many children.
